Pancake syrup is sugar syrup made with flavors, juice, or maple.

Candy popcorn is made with a sugar syrup cooked to the softball stage.    Why not cook a pancake syrup to the softball stage and make candy popcorn?

We’ve done that.  We’ve cooked several pancake syrups to the softball stage and made terrific candy popcorn.

It’s easy.  It’s quick.  It’s like making candy popcorn from a mix.

Make caramel popcorn with buttermilk syrup.  Buttermilk syrup is very much like caramel syrup, maybe a bit more like butterscotch.  The syrup is very good . . . and so is the popcorn.

How to Make your Candy Popcorn

The technique for making candy popcorn with a syrup is simple:

  1. Cook the syrup to 240 degrees, the soft ball stage.
  2. Remove it from the heat and stir in baking soda.
  3. Pour the warm candy over popped corn.

You can also make popcorn balls with any of these syrups.  To make popcorn balls, simply butter your hands and form balls with the warm, candy-coated  popcorn.

How to Make Lemon Popcorn with Syrup

Pop 2/3 cup quality popcorn kernels.

Use our Lemon Pancake Syrup Mix and mix and cook according to package directions.

Make sure not to let any sugar stick to the edges of the pan or your whole batch may crystallize. Continue to cook until the mixture reaches 235-245 degrees. (Please use a candy thermometer). It is important for the mixture to reach this temperature. If it doesn’t the candy will not harden properly.)

Remove the pan from the stove and add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and stir quickly as the mixture begins to bubble. Add the pink food coloring. We used Americolor Deep Pink food color gel.  (See the color swatch to the right)  Mixing the deep pink color with the yellow syrup produced a sunrise pink color of popcorn.  Choose from 41 professional colors >
